FH: Stark’s four goals lead Lasers past the Bulldogs

Franklin, MA

The Lasell University field hockey team defeated the Dean College Bulldogs, 6-0 on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at Grant Field. The win moves the Lasers to 7-4 on the season and 4-1 in conference play. The loss moves the Bulldogs to 0-10 on the year.

At the 10:35 mark of the first quarter, Dean's goalie was not able to clear the ball and it found its way to Lily Stark (Saco, ME), who shot the ball into the net to give the Lasers the early lead. Two minutes later, there was another misplaced clearance, and this time Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, MA) was there to put the ball into the net.

In the 20th minute, Stark was at it again as she ran down the field alluding her defenders. She only had the goalie to beat as she scored her second goal of the game. At the half, it was 3-0 in favor of the Lasers.

Stark would complete the hat trick at the 32-minute mark of the third quarter when she received the ball, across the box, from Madison Raymond (Concord, NH). When Stark controlled the ball, she one-timed it into the back of the net. Ten minutes later Stark would score again as she shot the ball into the top right corner of the goal off of an assist by Sage Dodier (Amesbury, MA).

In the 47th minute, Sheridan Blaha stole the ball from her defender and accelerated towards the net. She went by the last Bulldog defender which just left the keeper to beat.  Blaha was able to get by the goalie and shot the ball into the net for her second goal of the game.  This goal brought the final score to 6-0 in favor of the Lasers.

Lasell's goalies Abby Boudreau (Wakefield, MA) and McKenna Ecker (Liverpool, NY) split time in the net, but they did not face any shots.  The Bulldog goalie, Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, MA) finished the game with ten saves.
