FH: Lasers beat Blue Jays  

Newton, MA

The Lasell University field hockey team defeated the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) Blue Jays 7-0 on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field. The win moves the Lasers to 6-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. The loss moves the Blue Jays to 0-9 on the year.

The Lasers got on the board early in the first quarter when Paige Jette (Enfield, NH) passed the ball to Lily Stark (Saco, ME). Stark then shot the ball into the net to make it 1-0 Lasers. Three minutes later, Stark found the back of the net again courtesy of a great pass from Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, MA).

Stark would secure the hattrick at the 20:14 mark in the second quarter when was she able to shoot the ball into the back of the net after grabbing control of a loose ball.

At the 27th minute mark of the second quarter, Sheridan Blaha would make the score 4-0 in favor of the Lasers as she took a pass from Stark, composed herself and shot it into the net.

The Lasers led 4-0 at the half.

The Lasers added to their lead at the 33rd-minute mark of the third quarter when Stark got by her defender and shot the ball into the net. Six minutes later Stark would find the net again to make it 6-0 in favor of the Lasers.

Three minutes later, Blaha found a ball loose in front of the Blue Jays goal. She corralled the ball and then made it 7-0 when she was able to shoot the ball into the net.

When the final whistle blew, it was 7-0 in favor of Lasell.

The Laser goalies finished the game with eight saves. Five by Courtney Tello (Nashua, NH) and three by Abby Boudreau (Wakefield, MA).

The Blue Jay goalies finished the game with seven saves.  Six by Wendy Bowden (Old Saybrook, CT) and one by Abby Delgado (Southington, CT).

The Lasers are back in action on Wednesday as travel to Franklin, MA to take on Dean College at 3:30 p.m.  The Blue Jays are back in action on Tuesday as they host Elms at 6 p.m.
