FH: Two Lasers named to GNAC All-Conference teams

Newton, Mass. – Two standouts on the Lasell University field hockey team earned recognition from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) when the All-Conference teams were named Tuesday.

Junior Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) earned All-GNAC second team honors and senior Claire Shepherd (Huntington Beach, Calif.) earned All-GNAC third team.

Additionally, Senior Kait Duarte (Fair Haven, Mass.) was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team.

Blaha earned All-GNAC second team for the second straight season, the first of which was as a member of Regis College where she also went on to win Rookie of the Year. Blaha led the Lasers in both goals and assists and her ten goals ranked eighth in the GNAC.

Shepherd grabbed All-GNAC third team after having a solid season in the Lasell midfield. Having a big impact on the defensive end for the Lasers she gave a lift on the offensive side as well with an assist. She was a staple in the lineup starting all 18 games the Lasers played this year. Shepherd finishes her career with eight goals and four assists appearing in 61 games while starting 34 of them.

Lasell went 7-11 in the 12th year under head coach Cait Connelly with a 6-5 mark in the GNAC. The Lasers qualified for the GNAC tournament as a six seed and fell in the Quarterfinal to third-seeded Saint Joseph's College Maine.
