FH: Lasell rolls past Albertus Magnus for GNAC victory

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell University field hockey team got back on the winning track Wednesday afternoon, rolling past Albertus Magnus College, 10-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at Grellier Field.

Lasell improves to 7-8 overall and 6-3 in conference games, while Albertus Magnus drops to 0-9 overall and 0-8 in the GNAC.

Freshman Alyson Barnes (South Deerfield, Mass.) and senior Kait Duarte (Fairhaven, Mass.) led the Lasers with two goals apiece, while senior Grace Marc-Aurele (Leicester, Mass.) and junior Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) added a goal and an assist each.

The Lasers put the game out of reach with four goals in the opening quarter. Junior Kensie Lennon (Jamestown, R.I.) opened the scoring off an assist from senior Claire Shepherd (Huntington Beach, Calif.) eight minutes into the game, and Barnes tallied her first of the game 60 seconds later. Blaha made it 3-0 a minute after that, and Duarte knocked home her first goal of the season with two minutes to go in the frame to make it 4-0.

Barnes notched her second goal of the game midway through the second quarter, with an assist from Marc-Aurele, to extend the Laser margin to 5-0 at the intermission.

Marc-Aurele picked up her first goal of the season to start the second half scoring, assisted by Blaha, and sophomore Lily Stark (Saco, Maine) followed with her seventh of the season. The Lasers rounded out the scoring in the fourth quarter with goals by freshman Caitlyn Smith (Newington, Conn.), junior Mya Maxim (China, Maine) and Duarte's second of the game.

Lasell freshman Courtney Tello (Nashua, N.H.) needed to make just three saves in the Laser goal to record her third shutout of the season. Albertus junior Lillian Woods (New London, N.H.), a field player turned goalie, made 16 saves for the Falcons.

Lasell is back in action this Saturday with a GNAC road game at Elms College, beginning at 1 p.m. The regular season finale for the Lasers in next Wednesday, October 27, with a key GNAC home game against Colby-Sawyer College at 3 p.m. Albertus plays its final home game this Saturday at noon against Regis College, and wraps up its season next Wednesday at Simmons University.
