FH: Lasell falls to Johnson & Wales in GNAC matchup

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell University field hockey team went down to defeat at the hands of Johnson & Wales University Saturday on Senior Day, falling by a score of 6-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at Grellier Field.

Senior Jillian Miele (Wilmington, Mass.) tallied two goals and two assists to lead the Wildcats, and sophomore Mya Bolk (Raymond, Maine) also scored a pair of goals. The outcome gives JWU its eighth straight victory and pushes the Wildcats' record to 10-3 overall and 6-1 in the GNAC, while Lasell drops to 6-8 overall and 5-3 in conference games.

Prior to the game, Lasell recognized its four seniors in the field hockey program – Claire Shepherd (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Kait Duarte (Fairhaven, Mass.), Grace Marc-Aurele (Leicester, Mass.) and Sofia Rodriguez (Peabody, Mass.).

Bolk scored her first goal midway through the first quarter to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Miele notched her first goal early in the second quarter and Bolk added her second of the game, with an assist from Miele, late in the second quarter to give JWU a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Miele tacked on her second goal early in the third quarter to push the margin to 4-0, and senior Kerrianne Fagan (Bellingham, Mass.) and freshman Darian Shepherd (West Brookfield, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with fourth-quarter goals.

JWU finished with a 19-3 lead in shots and a 14-0 advantage in penalty corners. Lasell freshman Courtney Tello (Nashua, N.H.) made seven saves in the Laser goal.

Lasell is home again on Wednesday, hosting Albertus Magnus College in a GNAC affair at 3 p.m. at Grellier Field. JWU returns home to host GNAC foe Anna Maria on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
