FH: Lasell rolls past Dean in GNAC whitewash

NEWTON, Mass. – Lasell University outshot Dean College 23-0 Saturday afternoon on the way to a 5-0 victory in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action at Grellier Field.

Junior Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) posted her second straight two-goal game to lead the Lasers, while sophomore Lily Stark (Saco, Maine) added a goal and two assists. They helped the Lasers improve to 6-6 overall and 5-1 in GNAC games, while Dean falls to 1-9 overall and 1-5 in the GNAC.

Blaha put the Lasers on the board with a penalty stroke goal with a minute to go in the first quarter. Sophomore Johanna Snyder (Somerset, Mass.) doubled the Laser lead with just over a minute to go in the second quarter, knocking home her third of the season from the goal mouth to give Lasell a 2-0 lead at halftime.

The Lasers put the game away with two goals in the opening three minutes of the third quarter. Blaha notched her second of the game and eighth of the season on a feed from Stark in the 32nd minute, and less than a minute later, Stark made a nifty move around a defender to open up space before sliding a shot past the keeper for her sixth of the season.

Sophomore Lisa Ortiz (Lincoln, R.I.) rounded out the scoring for Lasell with her fourth goal of the season midway through the fourth quarter, firing home a long-range shot from the left side after a feed from sophomore Maddie Sewade (Nashua, N.H.).

Dean sophomore Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) had a busy day in goal and finished with seven saves.

Lasell hits the road for its next game, visiting Simmons College for a GNAC match-up Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs will return home after their three-game road trip to host league-leading Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
