FH: Lasell falls to Framingham State in overtime in defensive battle

NEWTON, Mass. – Sophomore Isabella Kondi (Canaan, N.H.) scored the game-winning goal just 31 seconds into overtime Thursday afternoon, breaking a scoreless battle and giving Framingham State University a 1-0 victory over Lasell University in a non-conference field hockey contest at Grellier Field.

Kondi finished off a penalty corner that was initiated by sophomore Corlene Guenard (Acton, Mass.) and received by and passed from freshman Angelina Serra (Chelmsford, Mass.). Kondi blasted the shot past Lasell freshman goalie Courtney Tello (Nashua, N.H.), who had stopped all four previous shots she had faced.

The outcome pushed Framingham State's overall record to 3-4, while Lasell drops to 4-5.

The outcome capped a defensive battle that saw just 10 total shots, six by the visitors and four by the hosts. Lasell had a 2-1 shots advantage in the first half and Framingham had a 4-2 margin in the third and fourth quarters but neither was able to break through. The Lasers had an excellent opportunity with just under four minutes to go in regulation but a shot by junior Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) went wide left.

The Rams scored the game-winner on the first shot of the extra session while down a player after a teammate was serving a penalty.

Lasell returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference action this Saturday with a key 11 a.m. matchup at Saint Joseph's College on Maine; The Lasers and Monks are two of the three schools that are undefeated in GNAC play. Framingham State returns home to host Worcester State University Saturday in a MASCAC encounter at 11 a.m.
