FH: Lasell blanks USJ to remain unbeaten in GNAC play

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Juniors Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) and Mya Maxim (China, Maine) tallied a goal and an assist each Saturday afternoon to lead the Lasell University field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at the USJ Field Hockey Field.

The Lasers controlled play most of the game, finishing with a 27-2 margin in shots and a 15-0 advantage in penalty corners. Lasell improves to 4-4 overall and 3-0 in the GNAC while USJ drops to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Maxim opened the scoring just five minutes into the contest with her first goal of the season, with an assist from Blaha. Sophomore Johanna Snyder (Somerset, Mass.) made it 2-0 with two and a half minutes to go in the first half with her second goal of the season.

Blaha and Maxim connected again four minutes into the third quarter, with Maxim setting up Blaha for her fourth of the season. Freshman Caitlyn Smith (Newington, Conn.) rounded out the scoring with just under three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter for her first collegiate goal.

Freshman goalie Courtney Tello (Nashua, N.H.) needed to make just two saves to post her first career shutout. Sophomore Wendy Bowden (Old Saybrook, Conn.) had a busy day and made nine saves in the Blue Jay goal.

The Lasers return home to host Framingham State University on Thursday for a non-conference encounter at Grellier Field (4:00 p.m.). USJ plays its third straight home game on Tuesday, hosting GNAC foe Albertus Magnus at 6 p.m.
