FH: Lennon leads second-half surge as Lasell downs Regis in GNAC opener

WESTON, Mass. – Junior Kensie Lennon (Jamestown, R.I.) tallied two goals and an assist as the Lasell University field hockey team erupted for a six-goal second half and defeated Regis College, 6-1, Saturday afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener at Regis Stadium.

Junior Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) and sophomore Johanna Snyder (Somerset, Mass.) added a goal and an assist each for the Lasers, who improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the GNAC. Regis is 0-1 overall and in conference play after its first three games of the season were postponed or cancelled.

Regis scored the only goal of the first half on its only shot and held a 1-0 lead at halftime despite Lasell having an 11-1 advantage in shots. The goal by sophomore Ashley Monteiro (Atkinson, N.H.) came about five minutes into the second quarter.

Lasell came out of the break with three goals in the first five minutes to take control. Lennon set up Blaha with the first Laser goal 2:20 into the third quarter, and sophomore Lily Stark (Saco, Maine) scored the go-ahead goal just 29 seconds later, with an assist from sophomore Maddie Sewade (Nashua, N.H.). Lennon potted her first goal in the 36th minute and Snyder made it 4-1 with her first goal in the 40th minute.

Sophomore Lisa Ortiz (Lincoln, R.I.) extended the Laser lead with 20 seconds remaining in the third quarter, and Lennon's second goal of the game rounded out the scoring on a penalty corner with eight minutes to go in the game, with Blaha and junior Sage Dodier (Amesbury, Mass.) collecting assists on the play.

Lasell finished with a 10-1 margin in shots in both the third and fourth quarters to wind up with a 31-3 advantage for the game. Freshman goalie Courtney Tello (Nashua, N.H.) made just one save to earn the win for Lasell, while sophomore Jocelyn White (Wilmington, Mass.) made six saves for Regis.

The Lasers are back in action on Tuesday with a non-conference game at Salve Regina University, beginning at 6 p.m. Regis visits Framingham State Wednesday at 7 p.m.
