FH: Lasell drops non-conference game to Ramapo

NEWTON, Mass. – Junior Victoria Docherty (Newton, N.J.) scored two goals and added an assist Saturday afternoon to lead Ramapo College to a 4-0 victory over Lasell University in a non-conference field hockey game at Grellier Field.

Docherty led a Roadrunner onslaught as Ramapo finished with a 35-3 advantage in total shots. Lasell freshman Courtney Tello (Nashua, N.H.) had a solid performance in goal, making 23 saves, and junior back Kaylie Gonya (Uxbridge, Mass.) contributed three defensive saves to the effort.

Lasell hung tough in the first half despite being out-shot 20-0. The only goal came late in the first quarter when Docherty potted her first of the season to put the visitors on the scoreboard.

Ramapo extended its lead to 3-0 early in the third quarter with a pair of goals just three minutes apart. Senior Angela Oskierko (Monroe Twp, N.J.) made it 2-0 with her first of the season at 31:27, and Docherty tallied her second of the game three minutes later. Junior Katie Yarussi (Hackettstown, N.J.) rounded out the scoring with her first goal of the season with just under four minutes left in the game, deflecting home a ball sent in by freshman Dylan Ghimiray (Old Bridge, N.J.).

The Lasell offense showed signs of life in the second half with shots by sophomore Lisa Ortiz (Lincoln, R.I.), freshman Alyson Barnes (South Deerfield, Mass.) and senior Grace Marc-Aurele (Leicester, Mass.), but couldn't get any past Ramapo freshman goalie Michelle Kukan (Clark, N.J.), who finished with three saves.

Lasell is home again on Tuesday, hosting New England College at Grellier Field at 4 p.m. Ramapo puts its 2-0 record on the line Wednesday at FDU Florham at 7 p.m.
