Field Hockey Tops Framingham State 4-1

NEWTON, Mass. (10/22/2015) – The Lasell College field hockey team defeated the Rams of Framingham State University in a non-conference meeting, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon at Grellier Field. The victory brings Lasell's record to 8-8 overall while Framingham State falls to 3-12.

Freshman Julia Franzik (Wallingford, Conn.) began the scoring for Lasell six minutes into the contest, netting her 5th goal of the season. Senior Cristina Wilson (Wilmington, Mass.), junior Courtney Braman (Gardner, Mass.), and senior Ashley Gleason (Suffield, Conn.) tallied the remaining points for the Lasers, as freshman Meaghann Ackerman (Littleton, Mass.) netted the lone goal for Framingham State.

Lasell opened the scoring six minutes in when Franzik turned away a Rams defender and struck on an unassisted goal to put Lasell up 1-0. The hosts would not hold on to the lead for long, as Ackerman responded with an unassisted goal of her own a minute later to knot the game 1-1.

The deadlock would hold until the 25th minute of the first half when Wilson collected a cross from Franzik to net the go-ahead goal. Lasell would not look back in the remainder of the game, as Braman buried a pass on the breakaway from freshman Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) in the 41st minute, before Gleason secured the 4-1 victory on an unassisted rocket to frame.

The Lasers outshot the Rams 23-16, holding an 18-8 advantage on shots on net, while the Rams surrendered five penalty corners compared to Lasell's seven.

Sophomore keeper Brianna Kulvete (Templeton, Mass.) recorded four saves on net in 35 minutes of work while sophomore Denis Landry (New Milford, Conn.) secured the win with three saves in second-half relief. Rams' junior keeper Alexandra Ricco (Agawam, Mass.) registered a season-high 13 saves in the effort, and suffered the loss at 1-3 overall.

Both teams jump back into conference play on Saturday, October 24. The Lasers will head to Nashua, N.H. to take on Rivier University in their final regular season GNAC matchup, while Framingham State welcomes Western Connecticut State at 2:00 p.m.
