UMF Comeback Sinks Lasell in Field Hockey

The Lasell College women's field hockey team fell 7-2 in a North Atlantic Conference matchup against the visiting University of Maine at Farmington. The loss drops Lasell to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the NAC, while UMF improves to 3-3 on the year, and 3-0 in conference play.

Ainslee Thompson (Allendale, N.J.) scored a pair of goals for Lasell, and Cassie Aviles (Bellingham, Mass.) made 12 saves in goal for the Lasers. Kaitlyn Bullen and Lily Barry each scored twice for UMF, who also got goals from Emma Daniela and Chelsea Morley, Curran Brierly recorded the win in goal for the visitors.

UMF opened the scoring in the 14th minute, courtesy of Bullen's first goal, but Thompson responded three minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. The two teams remained deadlocked for the remainder of the first half despite the visitor holding an edge in shots.

Thompson gave Lasell a 2-1 lead in the 40th minute, hammering a penalty stroke into the back of the net, but the Lasers were unable to maintain their advantge. Emma Daniel tied the game two minutes later for UMF, who went ahead for good on a Lily Barry strike in the 44th minute.

The University of Maine at Farmington will return to action on Tuesday September 25th, when they travel to Bowdoin College for a 6pm match. Lasell will face Becker College in a non-conference road tilt beginning at 4pm.
