Terriers Eke Out Overtime Victory Against Lasell in Women’s Field Hockey

Newton, Mass. – The Lasell College women's field hockey team fell to North Atlantic Conference foe Thomas College 4-3 in overtime. Thomas improved to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the NAC, while Lasell dropped to 3-5 on the year and 1-3 in NAC play.

Samantha Smithers (Yarmouth, Mass.) netted a pair of goals for Lasell, and Cristina Wilson (Wilmington, Mass.) tallied her first goal of the year for Lasell. Cassie Aviles (Bellingham, Mass.) made nine saves in goal for Lasell while falling to 3-5 on the year.

Miranda Thompson scored twice, including the game winning-goal on a penalty stroke in overtime for Thomas College. Brittany Premo and Michelle Greene each added goals for the Terriers. Sofia Sourgiadakis played the second half and overtime in goal for Thomas, saving 8 of the 10 shots she faced.

Tinsman opened the scoring, when she scored on a pass from Premo seven minutes into the contest. Smithers then scored both of her goals to put the hosts ahead 2-1 at the half. Premo and Greene scored less than two minutes apart to give Thomas a 3-2 lead with less than 30 minutes left.

Cristina Wilson redirected a pass from Francesca Ceppetelli (Enfield, Conn.) past Sourgiadakis to even the score at 3-3. Both teams created scoring chances early in the overtime, and Smithers nearly netted her third goal to give Lasell the win, but her shot just rolled wide of the frame. A minute later the Terriers earned a penalty stroke, which Thompson tucked just inside the right post to beat Aviles for the win.

Thomas will return to action on Sunday September 23rd when they travel to Simmons College, while Lasell will host the University of Maine at Farmington on Sunday September 23rd at 1pm.
