St. Joseph's Uses 2nd Half Spree To Defeat Lasell in Women's Field Hockey

Standish, Maine - The Lasell College women's field hockey team fell short in their North Atlantic Confderence opener, yielding five second half goals to Saint Joseph's after a scoreless openeing half. The Monks improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the NAC, while the Lasers stand at 1-3, and 0-1 in NAC contests.

The hosts tallied three goals in a matter of 16 minutes to secure control of the conference contest. Senior Elizabeth Andersen (Cumberland, Maine) ignited the Monks' offense with her first goal of the year in the 44th minute after collecting a rebound off a Rachelle Messuri (Atkinson, N.H.) shot. Messuri doubled the hosts' cushion just over 12 minutes later before Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) tallied three minutes after Messuri's marker when the junior midfielder buried a blast from just inside the circle on the left side. Allyson Allard (Parsonsfield, Maine) and Meghan Williams (Greenland, N.H.)capped the scoring for the Monks in the closing stages of the second half for the 5-0 final.


Cassie Aviles (Bellingham, Mass.) took the loss for Lasell despite making 13 saves, including seven in the scoreless first half. Saint Joseph's senior keeper Taylor Allison (Pawtucket, R.I.) collected her second shutout in as many games this fall.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Sunday when they host non-conference foe Anna Maria College in a 1:00 PM start. Lasell is off until the team hosts Wheelock College on Thursday in a non-league tilt slated to start at 4:00 PM.
