Castleton Knocks Field Hockey out of NAC Tournament in Quarter Finals

CASTLETON, VT- On Sunday afternoon, the Castleton Spartans knocked Lasell College out of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament with a 4-0 win in the quarter finals.  The Lasers conclude their year at 3-15 while the Spartans move onto the semifinals with a 12-7 overall slate.

The Lasers were seeded eighth heading into the tournament to face off against regular season champion, and top seed, Castleton.

A goal scored in the 5th minute would prove to be the game-winner despite a valiant effort by the Lasers.  Caitlin Briggs (Germantown, NY) converted on a left-to-right pass from Blake Wardwell (Bridgewater, VT) to give the hosts the early advantage.  Three more goals scored before the break, the next being registered by Wardwell in the 18th minute, redirecting a pass from Kealy Chipman (Bellow Falls, VT).

Rachel Preusser (Craryville, NY) added the final two tallies in a three minute span before intermission.  She first attacked unassisted in the 25th minute and then punched in her second goal on Wardwell's second helper of the game at 28:12.

The Lasers kept Castleton off the board entirely in the second half due to the work of goalkeeper Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) and defender Tiffany Potter (Leicester, MA).  Thornton stopped 15 shots in the contest while Potter turned away two more chances with defensive saves.  Hannah Cebry (Burlington, CT) led the Lasers with two shots on goal, but Castleton keeper Bridget Dusha (Greenwich, NY) responded with a shutout, swatting aside all four of Lasell's on-target shots.

Lasell's season comes to a conclusion at 3-15 overall while Castleton will play host to Husson University in the NAC Tournament semifinals on Wednesday, November 2nd.
