Wood's Two Goals Not Enough for Lasers Field Hockey

WATERVILLE, ME- Junior forward Natasha Wood (White River Junction, VT) scored back-to-back goals for Lasell but it was not enough as the Thomas College Terriers doubled up on the Lasers, 4-2, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) field hockey matchup on Saturday.

The teams seemed evenly matched through the 70 minute contest with Thomas barely clutching an advantage in shots (28-26) and penalty corners (11-10).  Despite the similar stat lines, the Terriers got on the board early and often to take a 4-0 lead before the half.

Ali Kriegel started the offensive attack for Thomas converting on a corner taken by Brittany Moore five minutes into play.  At the ten minute mark, Brittany Premo drove the ball through Lasell's defense to let loose on the net to make it a 2-0 game.

Almost 20 minutes of scoreless field hockey followed during which time both defensive ends were tight and aggressive to slow down scoring. However, before the break, Thomas scored twice more including the game-decider which was tallied at 28:48 by Moore off a Premo pass.

The Terriers tacked on the extra marker with two minutes left in the half to bring about a 4-0 halftime lead for the home team.

Lasell's offense came alive after the break to take 17 second half shots, while Thomas got off only nine in the frame. Twelve minutes into the period, Wood connected to put Lasell on the board.  Her second score reached the back of the goal at 60:04.  Both of Wood's marks were notched off deflected rebounds.

Lauren Rice (Belfast, ME) and Katelyn Fabri (Fairfield, CT) were solid on offense, combining for nine shots-on-goal in the game.  Unfortunately for the Lasers, the Terriers two goal keepers, Sofia Sourgiadakis and Jasmine Bishop, were strong enough to hold off the threat and turned aside 14 shots between them.  Sourgiadakis recorded the start and the win.

Lasell's goalie Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) shouldered the loss for Lasell, making 13 saves in the defeat.
