Second Half Surge Boosts Lasers Over Amcats

PAXTON, MA – The Lasell College field hockey team scored twice in the second half to come from behind and defeat Anna Maria College, 2-1, on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Lasers improve their record to 6-10, while the loss knocks the AMCATS back to 2-14.

Anna Maria put up points first as freshman Kayla Pickering (Milford, MA) took a long pass from sophomore Michelle Blackler (Ashland, MA) and knocked in the first goal of the game, at 24 minutes even.  The goal was just one of two shots for the AMCATS in the first period as opposed to Lasell's 17 chances, however the lead held up through the remained of the first half.

The Lasers also retained control of possession through most of the second half when they pulled together the come from behind victory.  Freshman Abby Tardiff (Augusta, ME) scored her first collegiate goal to tie the score at one-all.  Tardiff collected a pass from Katelyn Fabri (Fairfield, CT) to set the equalizer into the back of the net in the 38th minute.

For twenty minutes the score remained knotted until junior Hannah Cebry (Burlington, CT), who led all players with nine shots, wrestled the ball away from Anna Maria's goal keeper Alyssa Boykin (Worcester, MA) before releasing on the game-winning goal.

Laser goal keeper Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) turned away three shots in the contest, earning her sixth win of the season.  Boykin finished with 17 saves in the AMCAT net.  Lasell held a considerable 32-8 edge in shots and 20-5 advantage in corners throughout the non-conference contest.

Lasell will host Rivier College on Saturday, October 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in their final home contest of the 2010 season.  The game will also mark Senior Day for Lasell's four senior women's field hockey players, Tai Pratt (Oxford Hills, ME), Sara Jannuzzi (Glen, NH), Amanda Gorski (Wethersfield, CT) and Kristin Moran (Bedford, NH).
