Lasers Fall to Sharks in NAC Battle

Newton, MA— Two late second half goals by Simmons College field hockey left Lasell College in a 3-2 deficit at the conclusion of today's North Atlantic Conference contest on Grellier Field.  In the defeat, Lasell falls to 3-5 overall, 0-2 in the league, while Simmons equalizes at 3-3, and earned their first NAC victory of the season.

Lasell dictated the tempo for the majority of the game, managing to outshoot the Sharks 17-9 in the contest, as well as creating more penalty corner chances (8-6).  Simmons goalie Renna Smith (Belfast, ME) was tested nine times, making seven saves in the league victory.

Brigid Rushe (Belmont, MA) put the Sharks on the board in the 32nd minute when she tipped in a short pass from Monica Doucette (Rockport, ME) amidst a heap of players directly in front of the Lasers' net.  Simmons' 1-0 lead would stand through halftime.

Upon returning to action, Lasell's Tia Pratt (Oxford Hills, ME) delivered a bullet which slammed into the back of the Sharks goal to even the scoreboard at one-all, at 39:59.

The impasse would stand through the 52nd minute when Laser freshman Hillary Joseph (Cranford, NJ) blasted a high shot past Smith to deposit Lasell's go-ahead goal. Lasell's lead was short-lived however as just over one minute later Zoie Kaley (Manchester, ME) leveled the playing field with an unassisted mark, and less than four minutes later TJ Cowin (Newry, ME) lodged the game-winning goal to solidify the final outcome in favor of the Sharks.

Lasell returns to action on Wednesday when they will travel to Becker College to face the Hawks in a 7:00 p.m. night contest.
