Lasell Field Hockey Nips Eagles, 4-2

Newton, MA—  Freshman forward Hilary Joseph (Cranford, NJ) converted a pass from senior midfielder Tia Pratt (Oxford Hills, ME) to seal a Lasell College field hockey win over Daniel Webster College, 4-2, Saturday afternoon on Grellier Field.  With the non-conference victory, Lasell improves to 2-4 this season while the Eagles level their slate at 1-1.

Sara Jannuzzi (Glen, NH) scored right off the bat for Lasell, taking advantage of a penalty corner opportunity. Hannah Cebry (Burlington, CT) set up Jannuzzi, quickly releasing the pass from the corner to the top of the arc just over eight minutes into the game.

Daniel Webster equalized the score in a matter of three minutes when Sierra Ackerman (Saratoga, CA) connected on what would be the singular attempt for the Eagles in the first period.

At 24:09, freshman Joseph scored her first mark of the contest to give Lasell a 2-1 lead which they would carry into halftime.  Joseph launched her goal from eight yards out in the left corner of the field.

Lasell sustained their momentum from the first period as Joseph successfully registered the game-winning tally just over one minute into the half.  Joseph redirected the pass from Pratt at the top of the arc to slip the shot past Daniel Webster goal keeper Amy Prince (Hope Valley, RI).

The Eagles would score just once more, at 42:13, when Ackerman dished a helper to Courtney Brennan (Beverly, MA) who was waiting directly in front of the Lasers' net.

The Lasers quickly retaliated with their final goal, scored by Katelyn Fabri (Fairfield, CT) in the 45th minute. Pratt started the play near midfield, sending a long pass down the middle of the field to Fabri who tipped in the final goal.

Prince made nine stops in the Eagles net, and also received help from sophomore defender Samantha Cotoni (Groton, MA) who came up with a defensive save in the final 16 seconds of the contest.

Junior goalie Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) tallied three saves in her second season victory for Lasell.

The Lasers remain on their home turf for their next contest, set for Tuesday, September 21st at 4:00 against Regis College.
