Plymouth Offense Stifles Lasell Field Hockey

Newton, MA— Annabelle Frenette (Old Orchard Beach, ME) lodged three of Plymouth State University's seven goals in a non-conference field hockey lock out of Lasell College on Wednesday afternoon at Grellier Field.  The Panthers even their overall record to 2-2 with the 7-0 victory, while the Lasers are 1-4 after the setback.

Plymouth State scored two goals in a twenty second stretch between the third and fourth minute.  Frenette put in the first tally without help between a sea of defenders in front of the Lasers net.  On the successive play, Olivia Colborn (Lancaster, NH) connected after controlling a recoiled shot, and struck from point-blank range for a 2-0 Panther lead.

Frenette then registered her second goal on a similar play in the eighth minute, when Lasell keeper Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) made a kick-save on a shot by Colborn, however Frenette came up with the second chance shot and gave Plymouth a 3-0 lead.

After two consecutive saves by Thornton in the 22nd minute, the Laser goal keeper received help from defender Amanda Gorski (Wethersfield, CT) when a shot from Panther Lauren Carroll (Rollinsford, NH) on the left wing passed by Thornton and Gorski swept the pass out of play.

Lasell's Ainsley Wolfe (Derry, NH) also came away with a defensive save on a similar play when Thornton had to challenge an outside shot by Colborn and Wolfe knocked the shot away from the Lasers goal.

Before heading into the intermission, Plymouth's Jackie Morin (Scarborough, ME) notched the Panthers fourth goal with 29:47 off the clock.  Morin quickly released a retracted shot from the middle of the field at eight yards out. The Panthers headed into the break with a comfortable 4-0 lead.

Upon returning to action, Wolfe registered her second defensive save in the game, three minutes into the second period, after a penalty corner for Plymouth led to a shot by Parisi from the right baseline.

Plymouth, however, continued to improve upon their lead as Colborn registered her second goal of the game on a low-to-high pass from Kristina Conroy (Wakefield, MA) at 46:15.  Conroy began the play on the left baseline and crossed the assist to Colborn at the penalty stroke mark directly in front of the net for the score.

Christina Parisi (Hampton Falls, NH) struck for the sixth goal on a loose-ball pickup from the right wing and the final goal of the contest was recorded by Frenette to complete her hat trick.  Frenette dodged her defender in a one-on-one situation and shot from center field at 12 yards out at the 59:49 mark.

The Panthers were relentless, taking 36 shots in the game, 20 of which were saved by Thornton between the Lasers' pipes.  Plymouth goal keeper Hilary Lemelin (Milan, NH) turned away six shot attempts in the shutout.

Lasell will host Daniel Webster College next on Saturday, September 18th at 1:00 p.m. on Grellier Field.
