Farmington Trips Up Lasers in NAC Play

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine Farmington scored five goals in their opening North Atlantic Conference contest to defeat the Lasell College field hockey team on Saturday.  Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) tallied a game-high five points, scoring two goals and adding an assist in the 5-0 victory for the Beavers.

The Beavers took control of the contest from the opening minutes as they held Lasell to just one shot before the intermission.  Throughout the entire contest, Maine outshot the Lasers by a solid 26-5 attempts during the contest, demanding a lot of Lasell's goalie Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.).  Thornton was firm in the net, facing the constant action from the Beavers, making 12 saves in the game, including a save on a penalty stroke by Jessie Lacasse (Barnstable, Mass.).

Maine jumped out early when Wentworth carried the opening possession from midfield and scored just 18 seconds into the match.  Tia Pratt (S. Paris, ME) followed up the initial goal with a shot attempt that was drilled hard just wide of the Beavers net, but the Beavers regained control for three more goals before the break.

Wentworth marked her second goal in the first 3 minutes of the second period for the Beavers, marking the 5-0 final.

Natasha Wood (White River, VT) and Pratt each got shots on goal in the second half but Sarah Brown (Windham, ME) booted away the bids in the Beavers net.

Lasell are tabbed to take on Thomas college in Waterville, Maine on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
