Field Hockey Wins Big at Thomas

Waterville, ME - The Lasell College Field Hockey team picked up their first NAC win of the 2009 season over Thomas College, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.  The Lasers left Maine with a 3-6 overall record and a 1-2 NAC mark so far this season.

Lasell's goalkeeper Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.) faced nine shots in goal, and 26 total shots by the Terriers, allowing only one goal to slip by while making eight saves.

However, it was the Lasers who scored first to get on the board when Hannah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) took a connection from Sara Jannuzzi (Glen, NH) to knock the go-ahead goal into the net.

The Terriers locked up the game just four minutes later when Kellie Martel (Cambridge, ME) was set up by teammate Ali Kriegel (Winslow, ME) off a corner to tie the game at 1-1.

Quickly in the second period, Concetta Nicoloro (Arlington, Mass.) broke the tie, tipping in the game-winner off a rebounded shot.  In the 53rd minute, Tia Pratt (S. Paris, ME) took a long shot from the top of goal area to put some space in the Lasers lead.

Thomas had more than ten additional shot opportunities than Lasell but the Lasers capitalized on their chances for the 3-1 win.

Lasell competes next at NAC opponent Rivier College on Saturday, October 3rd at 1:00 p.m.
