Lasell Faces Tough Loss to MIT

Cambridge, Mass.-  The Lasers fell to a powerful MIT field hockey squad on Tuesday afternoon at Jack Barry Field, 8-0.   Lasell falls to 0-2 on the year after the loss, while the Engineers won their fourth straight to open the season.

The MIT team came out to a quick 3-0 lead as Anna Teruya took a pass off a penalty corner at 6:33.  The goal proved to be the game-winner, though less than three minutes later, the Engineers struck again.  Kimberly Barker tipped in a high-arching shot off a bounce for their second tally, and within the 11 minute mark, Jessica Oleinik struck once more to cushion a three goal lead heading in the half.

MIT continued their command of the game in the second half, tallying five more goals within the 35 minute stretch.

Lasell was held to just seven total shots on the day by the tough Engineers who outshot them by a 47-7 margin.  Lasell also had only one penalty corner the entire contest.

Hannah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) continued to lead the charge for Lasell, taking three shots on goal.  Tia Pratt (S. Paris, ME) also attempted one shot, as did first year athletes Taylor Finkelstein (Hyannis, Mass.), Katelyn Fabri (Fairfield, Conn.), and Natasha Wood (White River, VT).

Goalkeepers Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.) and Erin Norton (Yarmouth, ME) shared time in the net for the Lasers.   Thornton played nearly 60 minutes, making 12 saves, while Norton finished the game between the pipes, earning six saves on seven total challenges.

Lasell returns to action at their home opener on Saturday, September 12th at 1:00 p.m. when they will face Wheaton College on Grellier Field.
