Field Hockey’s Season Ends at Husson in NAC Quarterfinals

Bangor, ME - The Lasell College field hockey team fell at the hands of Husson University on Saturday, during the quarterfinals of the North Athletic Conference.  The Lasers were defeated 4-1, closing out the 2009 season with a 7-12 record.

Husson struck just 2:44 into the contest with a quick goal by Lorri Hiltz (So., Norridgewock, ME) who skimmed a shot into the left side of the Lasers' net.   Eighteen minutes later, after a fantastic save by Lasell's goalkeeper Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.), the Eagles were lucky to pick up the deflection that resulted in Jillian Morin (Jr., Manchester, ME) putting Husson up 2-0.

Courtney Allen (Gardiner, ME) and Emily Woodbury (Burnham, ME) each posted goals in the second half.  Allen scored off a penalty corner at 45:29, then seconds later Woodbury picked up a rebound from her own previous shot, and brought the score to 4-0.

Lasell's Kasey Looney (Leicester, Mass.) would score the sole Laser tally during the final minutes of the contest.  Looney took advantage of a loose ball in front of the Eagles goal and buried it into the back of the cage.

Thornton recorded nine saves on 27 Eagle shots.  Lasell attempted 13 strokes during the contest, and were allotted only three penalty corner opportunities.
