Eastern Triumphant with 9-2 Win

Mansfield, Conn.-On Wednesday evening, Eastern Connecticut State University hosted the Lasell College field hockey team, defeating the Lasers 9-2.  The Warriors broke their eleven game losing streak with the victory, while the Lasers record stands at 4-8 after the loss.

 

Eastern got on the board almost immediately when Melanie Proud put a rebounded shot into the baseboard of the net with just 2:51 elapsed off the clock.  P          roud would go on to score two more goals.  Ashley Del Vecchio went on to score a game-high seven points, closing in on two first half and one second half goal, in addition to one assist.  The score was 5-0 at the end of the first period.

 

After a sixth mark by the Warriors off a penalty stroke at the start of the second half, Lasell tallied their first mark.  Concetta Nicoloro (Arlington, Mass.) made a curled pass around the goal to Kasey Looney (Leicester, Mass.) who knocked in the goal. 

 

Following two more goals by Eastern, the Lasers capitalized on a penalty corner, with Tia Pratt (S. Paris, ME) marking the points.  Pratt's goal, which came at 65:16, would be the last of the game.

 

Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.) turned away six shots by the Warriors in the net for Lasell.  The Lasers' defense also gave additional help with three total defensive saves.  Tiffany Potter (Rochdale, Mass.) knocked away two chances for the Warriors, while Ainsley Wolfe (Derry, NH) made one more save for the Lasers.

 

Lasell will face Simmons on Wednesday, October 14th in NAC action.  The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. on the Sharks home field.
