Pratt Scores Game Winner Late in Regulation

Newton, Mass.- Tia Pratt (S. Paris, ME) scored Lasell's only goal in a 1-0 triumph over Anna Maria College in non-conference field hockey today, on Grellier Field.  Pratt's goal came after a scoreless 62 minute contest, though it was not without chances for either team.

With 1:57 left in the first stanza, Lasell had a close call when a loose ball shot across the Amcat's net to a scramble, but no one was able to direct the ball into the net.  Following closely after, the Lasers were awarded a penalty corner as time ran off the clock into halftime but they were unable to capitalize.  The teams headed into a scoreless halftime.

Two minutes into the second period, the Lasers were awarded another corner opportunity which resulted in another near-make for Lasell.  Senior Justine McComb (Bloomfield, Conn.) was found in close proximity to the left edge of the cage and shot just wide of the opposite corner of the net.

Kasey Looney (Leicester, Mass.) was given a chance shortly thereafter with a bullet directly in front of the net that was saved by Anna Maria's netminder  Alyssa Boykin (Worcester, Mass.).

Anna Maria also had a tough time producing a goal in the second off their extra chance opportunities.  The Amcats had three successive prospects but did not convert. Emily Nugent (Woceester, Mass.) was the closest of the Amcats to get a shot off, but the ball raced wide of the net.

Lasell's goalie Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.) made a huge diving save as Angela Giuffrida (Leicester, Mass.) tore off on a breakaway with 16:50 on the clock in the second.  The rebounded shot then was deflected to give Anna Maria yet another chance, but Thornton was able to make the stop again, this time finding McComb who carried the ball to the Lasers offensive side of the field.  The following scrum in front Boykin on the visitors end was stifled by Anna Maria's Ashley Wax (Oxford, ME) who finally controlled the ball to get it out of scoring position.

Late in regulation, with less than eight minutes to play, Lasell broke on the board after Sara Jannuzzi's (Glen, NH) penalty corner entry pass found Pratt who blasted the goal from the top of the arc.   The goal was scored on Lasell's 16th penalty corner of the day.

The Lasers improve to 6-8 overall this season while the Amcats fall to 2-11.

The next field hockey game for Lasell will be held at Daniel Webster College on Tuesday, October 20th.  The game will begin at 3:30 p.m.
