Lasers’ Drop Tough Game to Plymouth State

The Lasell College field hockey team played a challenging game against Plymouth State University this afternoon in non-conference action, on Grellier Field.  Although Lasell played aggressive through the contest, the Panthers proved to be too strong, as they beat the Lasers 4-0.

Sarah Smith (Lexington, MA) scored a hat trick for the Panthers, producing her first goal at 17:34 off a pass from Courtney McLaughlin (Bellingham, MA).  Later in the period, Betsy Renauld (Penacook, NH) assisted Smith's second goal, giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead at the half.

Coming into the second half, Meagan DeAndrade (New Bedford, MA) attempted two shots on goal for the Lasers, with Hannah Cebry (Burlington, CT) and Caitlyn Walker (Middlebury, CT) each attempting one, but with no success. Plymouth State connected twice more, once by Smith, and once by McLaughlin, to complete the scoring.

The Lasers defense was kept busy throughout the game, with a solid performance by Kelsey Brooks (Dartmouth, MA).  The entire Lasers' defenders played tough, helping goalkeeper Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) protect their net.  Thornton came up with 12 saves overall.

After today's match-up, the Lasers have dropped to 2-3 this season, and the panthers have landed even, at 2-2. Lasell plays again on Saturday, September 20th, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) competition, at Castleton State.
