Walker's Hat Trick Lifts Lasell Past MIT

Caitlyn Walker's (Middlebury, CT) hat trick in today's game against Massachusetts Institute of Technology gave the Lasers their first win of the season, in a 4-1 victory over the Engineers.  Walker, a junior, was the first and last person to score on Grellier Field today, and recorded the game winning goal.

The Lasers got off to a good start, producing 10 shots and holding the Engineers to only 6 shots in the first half.  Walker's first goal came at the 25:05 mark, when Tia Pratt (S. Paris, ME) passed the ball across the net to an open Walker who connected with the far corner of the goal.  Walkers' second goal came unassisted with just 26 seconds left to play in the first period, as she took a shot off a loose ball.  Goal keeper Amanda Miller (Fall River, MA) collected 3 saves in the first half, and defender Cara Hulse (Danbury, CT) recorded one defensive save for the Lasers.

The second half opened with MIT's Jessica Oleinik (Ellicott City, MD) scoring the Engineers only goal at 49:18, assisted by Virginia Nicholson (Wilmington, DE). The Lasers answered back shortly afterwards with an unassisted goal by Stephanie Jansen (Glen, NH), followed by Walkers final goal at 63:46, which was assisted by Justine McComb (Bloomfield, CT).

Both Miller and MIT's goal keeper, Keri Dixon (Bethlehem, PA) picked up 12 saves in today's match up.

The Lasers improve their record to 1-1, while MIT drops to 0-4.  Lasell plays again Thursday, September 11th, on Grellier Field, against Wheelock College.  Game time is 4:00 p.m.
