Frollo & Thornton Lead the Lasers this Week

Two Lasers were honored this week by their respective conferences with the Rookie of the Week award.  Jordynn Frollo was recognized by the GNAC for her outstanding performance on the women's soccer team, and Christine Thornton was chosen as Co-Rookie of the Week in the NAC for field hockey.

A 5'3" freshman from Uxbridge, Massachusetts, Frollo (right) has made an immediate impact on thewomen's soccer team.  Playing solid all season long, Frollo has playedconsistently well in all of Lasell's contests this year, anchoring the Lasers' defense and producing opportunities for the offensive front line.

This week, Frollo was key to the Lasers success, producing two assists on the game tying and game winning goals against Simmons College.  Frollo connected twice off free kicks from 35 feet out to find her teammates in position to score. The win against Simmons was the first GNAC conference win of the season for the Lasers.

Christine Thronton.JPG A 5'2" freshman, goalkeeper from Canton, MA, Thornton (left) has played in 5 games this season, and started in four.  The first year athlete started as Lasell's goalkeeper in both contests this week against Plymouth State University and Castleton State College. She had 12 saves against PSU and 16 saves against Castleton, for 28 total saves. Though Lasell went 0-2 this week, Thornton played extremely well for the Lasers, in two tough matchups.

Thornton has a total of 45 saves this season, and has earned a shut out win against Regis College.  She is leading the NAC in saves per game, averaging 10.75, and is second in the NAC with save percentage (.782).

The women's soccer team plays again on Saturday, September 27th at 1:00 p.m. when they take on GNAC opposition Johnson & Wales University on Taylor Field.  Field hockey plays the same date and time on Grellier Field against NAC rival UMaine, Farmington.
