Lasers Drop NAC Game to Castleton

Castleton, VT- Kayla Blank tallied three goals to lead Castleton State College to a 6-0 win over Lasell College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) field hockey action.


Blank broke a scoreless tie just under 10 minutes into the contest, when she sent home her eighth goal of the season. Blank corralled are bound and beat Lasell goalie, Christine Thornton (Canton, MA), after she had made a pair of fantastic saves.


Just under 20 minutes later, Blank struck again on a Molly Fraher assist. Fraher played a long hit into the left side of the circle that Blank one-touched high past to make it 2-0. Thornton kept the Lasers within striking distance, making nine saves in the first half.


The Spartans erupted for four more goals in the second half to put the game away. Trishia Fellows scored just four minutes into the half, when she sent home a rebound of yet another Thornton save for her sixth goal of the season. Fraher added a goal and another assist to Blank, while Carolyn Griggs scored her seventh of the season to round out the Castleton scoring.


Thornton finished the game with 16 saves as Lasell falls to 2-4overall and 0-1 in NAC play.


Trisha Clark started in goal for the Spartans, playing 46 minutes and earning the win, without being tested. Caitlyn Walker (Middlebury, CT) and Hannah Cebry (Burlington, CT) each attempted shots for the Lasers in the second half, but were unsuccessful. Siobhan Whittemore relieved Clark for the final 24 minutes and stopped Lasell's lone shot on goal to preserve the shut-out.


Lasell will take on Regis College on Monday, September 22 for a 4:00 pm non-conference match-up on Grellier Field.
