BSB: Lasell Secures Twentieth Win of Season Against Elms

Waltham, MA – The Lasell University baseball team defeated GNAC opponent Elms College on Sunday night 2-0. The win brings the Lasers to 20-11 on the season and 9-2 in conference while the blazers drop to 15-16 overall and 5-6 in the GNAC.

The game started off with what looked to be an offensive explosion from the Lasers as they put up two quick runs in the first inning. CJ Mills got on base to start the inning on an error by the pitcher and Tim Callahan followed him with a single. An overthrown pick off would advance the runners to second and third and an RBI groundout from Scott Lyon would score the game's first run. Brad Edwards would follow him with an RBI single putting the Lasers up 2-0.

The rest of the way would be an absolute pitcher's duel as Lasell's Matthew Fletcher went head-to-head with Elms' Henry Rodon. Each side would manufacture some base runners but couldn't get the big hit to score any runs. Elms loaded the bases in the top of the second inning but Fletcher would force a groundout to end the inning.

The Blazers would get two more runners on in the third inning after back-to-back, two out singles from Tyler Galenski and CJ Moriarty, but Fletcher would force another ground out to end the inning.

Pierce Clare would come into the game in the eighth inning and earn the two inning save, his first of the season. Clare would allow just one hit and strike out two Blazers to finish things off.

Fletcher (4-2) earned the win, making him the all-time wins leader in program history with 12 career victories. He would toss seven innings of two hit baseball, walking three batters and striking out ten.

Offensively, Callahan singled twice and scored a run for Lasell. Edwards singled and drove in a run and Ross Audet also singled. Lyon also drove in a run for the Lasers.

Up Next: The Lasers are back in action tomorrow for a GNAC doubleheader against the Saint Joseph's (CT) Blue Jays. First pitch of game one will be at 3:30 pm.
