Fort Pierce, FL – The Lasell University baseball team fell at the hands of the Westfield State Owls on Wednesday afternoon, 13-2. The loss pushes Lasell's record to 5-5 on the season while the Owls improve to 7-3.

The Owls jumped out in front early in the first inning after a single, walk and two stolen bases gave them runners on second and third with one out. A fielder's choice would score the first run of the game and give Westfield a 1-0 lead.

Lasell would get some traffic on the bases in the first three innings but couldn't get the big timely hit to score any of them. Westfield would tack on four more runs over the next two innings when Chase Racine blasted a solo home run to centerfield and Justin Neidel doubled to left to score two more and give the Owls a 4-0 lead. A wild pitch and a deep sacrifice fly from Racine would plate two more and extend the Owl lead to six in the fifth inning.

Lasell was finally able to scratch across a run in the bottom half of the fifth on a Scott Lyon single that scored senior CJ Mills. Junior Chris Bulk would belt his second home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth to pull the Lasers within four, 6-2.

However, that would end the scoring for the Lasers and Westfield would begin to put the ballgame out of reach with a 3-run shot off the bat of Trey Faulkner and a solo shot from Sam Palmer. A single from Racine would plate two more in the eighth and another single from Faulkner scored the 13th and final run for the Owls.

Graduate student Justin Lowden was on the hill for the Lasers and earned the loss, tossing three and one-third, allowing four hits, three runs, while walking five and striking out one.

Offensively, Lyon had three hits in his four at-bats, driving in one run. Graduate student Brad Edwards also went three for four. Bulk, and Bryan Baumann added a home run and double respectively and Tim Callahan and Ross Audet each added singles as well.

Up next: The Lasers continue their Florida trip with a matchup with the Monmouth College Scotts on Thursday at 1:30 pm.
