Boston, M.A. – The Lasell University baseball team split their doubleheader against the Suffolk University Rams on Sunday, winning game one 11-4, and dropping game two 15-0. The games put Lasell's record at 3-1 on the season, while Suffolk is now 1-1.

Game One

Lasell's offense was hot early in game one. After a scoreless first inning the Lasers were able to take an early 2-0 lead when graduate student Scott Lyon ripped an RBI triple and would score on the next batter when senior Ross Audet singled through the left side of the infield. The Rams got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the second, but Lasell would increase their lead over the next two innings scoring six more runs. A Tim Callahan single, a two-RBI double from Brad Edwards and a base knock from Lyon gave the Lasers a 6-1 lead after three. Junior Connor Freitas and Edwards would add to that lead in the fourth with Freitas driving in junior Jared Whitby on a sacrifice fly and Edwards doubling in Callahan again to extend their lead to 7-1.

Suffolk was able to grab two more runs before the eighth inning making it a 9-3 ballgame, however Lasell got one of those back on a CJ Mills sacrifice fly that scored Whitby again. The Rams got another run in the bottom half of the eighth on a double from Sam Armbruster, but Audet capped things off for the Lasers in the ninth with a single up the middle to score Lyon again and finish things giving the Lasers the 11-4 victory.

Matt Fletcher toed the rubber for the Lasers in game one throwing four and one third innings allowing just five hits and two runs while walking two and striking out four. Senior Darek Lallo followed him and earned the win going two and two-third innings allowing 2 hits and one run.

Lyon had a day at the plate going four for five with two RBIs and scoring three runs. Edwards also had a big day hitting two doubles and driving in three runs and Callahan and Audet each had two hits, Callahan driving in one run and Audet driving in two.

Game Two

The tables turned in game two as the Suffolk offense took over. The Rams took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and didn't stop there, putting up an eight spot in the third to extend their lead to 11-0.

After a scoreless fourth inning Suffolk added their final four runs in the fifth where they would be done scoring, but led 15-0.

Offensively for Lasell Bryan Baumann, Edwards, Dave Egan and Whitby each had base hits.

Graduate Student Zach Simone earned the loss pitching two and one third of an inning, giving up seven hits and six runs while walking one.
