BSB: Audet Records 100th Hit as Lasers Split with Blazers

Chicopee, MA - The Lasell Lasers split their Monday doubleheader at Elms, winning game one in comeback fashion by a score of 9-7 before falling in game two 12-2. The Lasers are now 18-14 on the season and 12-4 in GNAC play, while the Blazers are 20-12 and 10-6.

Game One

After the Blazers scored twice in the first, the Lasers got their offense going in the second. Matthew Bischof led off the inning with a double, and then advanced to third on a Ross Audet single. Jared Whitby then singled home Bischof before a pair of outs was made. Christopher Bulk then launched a two out, three RBI HR to put the Lasers up 4-2. After the Blazers got one run back in the bottom of the inning, the Lasers answered right back with another Whitby RBI single. They then extended their lead on a Bryan Baumann RBI double in the fourth to make it 6-3. But the Blazers kept coming back, and scored two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings, taking a 7-6 lead. After a scoreless sixth, the Lasers took their last swings in the seventh. A pair of singles from Audet and Pierce Clare, followed by a walk from Bulk, loaded the bases with two outs. Tim Callahan was then hit by a pitch to force home the tying run. Baumann then singled to left field to score two, giving the Lasers the 9-7 lead that they would eventually take the win by.

The Lasers had 13 hits in this one, with Bryan Baumann having three. Each of Ross Audet, Jared Whitby, and Pierce Clare had two. Christopher Bulk recorded the rare feat of three runs and three RBI in the same game. It was a bullpen game for the Lasers, as CJ Mills opened it up with two innings, allowing four hits and three runs, only one of which was earned. Next was Brendan Zaleski, who went 1.2 innings and allowed two hits and two runs, one of which was earned. Third was Time Coakley who went 1.1 innings and allowed one hit and two earned runs. The final pitcher of the game, and picking up the win, was Ethan Bernardo. He pitched two scoreless innings and allowed a lone hit while striking out two.

Game Two

The Lasers struck first in game two, capitalizing on a Tim Callahan lead off double. He would come around to score on a Connor Freitas sacrifice fly. But the lead was not for long, as the Blazers tied things up in the bottom half of the inning. They would then double their lead in the third on an error. They would double their lead again in the fifth on a pair of sacrifice flies, making the score 4-1. The Lasers scored a run in the sixth on a Connor Freitas solo homer, but that was it for their offense. The Blazers would answer with a run in the bottom half of the inning, and then score seven runs in the eighth to win 12-2.

The Lasers had six hits in the game with Pierce Clare recording two of them. With his single in the second inning, Ross Audet recorded his 100th career hit as a Laser. He now has 108 collegiate hits, with eight coming at Becker College. Jeremy Blackwood started for the Lasers, and went four innings. He allowed three hits and three runs, but just one was earned. He struck out three. He was relieved by Darek Lallo. Lallo went 3.1 innings and allowed eight hits and nine runs, but just five were earned. The final pitcher of the day was Jason Giangrande.
