BSB: Lasers Swept by Marywood in Florida

Fort Pierce, FL - The Lasell Lasers Baseball team fell in both games of their doubleheader on Thursday, falling to Marywood by scores of 9-6 and 6-3. The losses drop the Lasers to 4-3 on the season, while the Pacers are now 5-4.

Game One

The Lasers struck first, scoring a run in the first after a pair of singles from Tim Callahan and Connor Freitas, with Freitas picking up the RBI. Lasell would strike again in the second inning on a Jared Whitby RBI single. The Pacers would respond in the bottom half of the inning with three runs. After a scoreless third, the Lasers went back on top in the fourth. Both CJ Mills and Matthew Bischof had RBI singles, while a third run scored on an error. But the lead was short lived, as the Pacers scored four in the bottom of the inning. The Lasers got one run back to make it 7-6 on another Whitby RBI single in the fifth. The Pacers would add two more runs in the fifth, and eventually won the game 9-6.

Three Laser hitters collected multiple hits, with Tim Callahan, Bryan Baumann, and Jared Whitby each having two hits. Brendan Zaleski started on the mound for the Lasers, going 3.1 innings while allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs. He struck out three while walking two. The only other pitcher for the Lasers was Ethan Bernardo. He went 2.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits. He struck out three and walked none.

Game Two

Errors killed the Lasers in the first inning of game two, as the Pacers scored four runs. The Lasers were able to get one run back in the second on a Bryan Baumann RBI single, and another on an error in the fourth to make it 4-2. But the Pacers scored two in the sixth to go up 6-2, and the Lasers would only score one more run in the game on a David Egan single in the bottom half of the sixth.

For the second straight game, three Lasers recorded two hits, as Connor Freitas, Jared Whitby, and Bryan Baumann each reached the mark. Joey Rego started for the Lasers, going 5.1 innings. He allowed seven hits and five runs, but only two were earned. He struck out two batters. He was relieved by Owen Caldwell who went 1.2 innings and allowed one earned run on a hit and three walks.
