Fort Pierce, FL - The Lasell Lasers began their Spring Break trip with a doubleheader sweep of the Franciscan Barons, winning game one 14-1 and game two 7-0. The Lasers are now 3-0 on the season, while the Barons are now 1-3.

Game One

Neither team was able to get much going in the first two innings, and it was 0-0 as the game headed to the third. After Tim Callahan tripled and Connor Freitas walked, they each advanced on a wild pitch to give the Lasers the first run of the game. Freitas then scored on a Matthew Bischof double. Bischof would then score on a wild pitch, giving the Lasers a 3-0 lead. Things were quiet over the next two innings, before the Lasers broke things open in the sixth. The Lasers would bat around and score two runs on a Callahan single, two more on a Freitas triple, and a fifth run on a Bischof single. Lasell would bat around again in the seventh, this time scoring six runs. The first came on a Jared Whitby bases loaded walk. After another scored on a wild pitch, Christopher Bulk and Callahan each singled home runs. Bulk and Callahan would then go and score on RBI singles from Bischof and Spencer Murphy, making the game 14-0. The Barons would score one run in the bottom half of the inning, but it was too little, too late, as the Lasers won 14-1.

There were 14 hits from the Lasers, with 12 of those hits coming off the bats of Matthew Bischof (5), Tim Callahan (4), and Owen Caldwell (3).

Lasell's starting pitcher Matthew Fletcher went the distance, pitching all seven innings. He was untouchable throughout, striking out a program record 14 batters. The previous record of 12 had been accomplished three times, most recently by Sean Doris in 2018. Fletcher allowed just two hits and a lone earned run, while walking just one batter.

Game Two

After both teams worked around a walk in the first, the Lasers grabbed the lead in the second, scoring a run on a David Egan single. They would extend their lead to 3-0 in the third after an RBI double from Connor Freitas, and a sac fly from Ross Audet. Both teams remained quiet until the sixth, when the Lasers plated four. The first was on a Bryan Baumann sacrifice fly. Up next was Freitas, and he tripled home two runs. Freitas would then score on an Audet double. That was it for scoring, as the Lasers took the game 7-0.

The Lasers collected nine hits, with Tim Callahan, Connor Freitas, David Egan, and Jared Whitby each having two. Freitas led the team with three RBI, while Audet had two.

Adam Marsh pitched the first five innings for the Lasers, allowing just two hits. He struck out three and walked four while picking up the win, his second of the season. He was relieved by CJ Mills, who went two innings, allowing just one hit and two walks.

Up Next - The Lasers will be back in action with a game against Kenyon at 6pm on Monday.
