Baseball: Lasers fall in heartbreaking fashion to Nichols

Dudley, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers baseball team fell in a tough non-conference matchup with the Nichols College Bision, 3-2, Tuesday evening at the Nichols Baseball Field.

It took five innings of play, but the Lasers got on the board first when sophomore CJ Mills (Waltham, Mass.) singled to right first scoring freshman Devon Lapierre (Dover, N.H.).

Lasell doubled their lead in the next inning as freshman Griffin Ferreira (Westport, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field bringing home fellow classmate Vaun Larisa (Lincoln, R.I.).

The Bison answered in the bottom half of the sixth as sophomore Brennan Hyde (Tampa, Fla.) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home senior DJ Caron (Branford, Conn.).

Nichols tied the game up in the bottom half of the ninth as freshman Stanley Cipkas (Marlborough, Conn.) scored on a Lasell error. The Bison then walked it off later in the inning graduate student Nathaniel Cormier (Sandisfield, Mass.) singled home freshman William Nath (The Woodlands, Texas) to take a 3-2 victory.

Freshman Ben Weber (Rockaway, N.J.) got start for the Bison going five and a third, giving up six hits with one earned run while striking out eight. Senior Brendan Duffy (Stratford, Conn.) got the win on the mound in relief going one inning allowing one hit and striking out one. Sophomore Andrew Croteau (Reading, Mass.) led the way on offense going two of three at the plate. Cormier and Hyde both had one hit and drove in a run. Nath, Cipkas, and Caron all scored a run in the win for Nichols.

Freshman Alex Noel (Dover, N.H) was solid on the mound going six innings while giving up three hits and one unearned run while striking out one. Mills led the way at the plate going two for four and driving in a run. Sophomore Bryan Baumann (Deerfield, Mass.) also went two of four at the plate. Ferreira drove in the other run for the Lasers and Larisa and Lapierre both came across to score for Lasell.

The Lasers will be back in action on Saturday, April 9, when they play host to fellow Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) member Dean College. The start time of the game has yet to be decided, stay tuned for any updates.
