Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Athletic Trainer?

Athletic Trainers are health care professionals who specialize in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity.  As part of a complete health care team, the certified athletic trainer works under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other health care professionals, athletic administrators, coaches and parents.

What do I need to be medically eligible for participation in athletics at Lasell College?
In order to be medically cleared to participate, all student-athletes at Lasell College must:

  • Pass a general medical physical completed by their primary care physician.
  • Complete all Sportsware requirements, including a medical history questionnaire or update; treatment consent form; insurance acknowledgement requirements and authorization for release of protected health information forms; and all insurance information and emergency contact forms.
  • Complete Concussion Education Course and submit certificate of completion to your Lasell athletic trainer.

What should I do if I am injured while playing on a Lasell College athletic team and what doctor should I see?

All injuries, however minor, should be reported to the athletic training staff as soon as possible. The athletic training staff will evaluate the injury and determine the course of treatment and make the proper referral, most times to our team physician, if warranted.

What should I do if I am injured at a game on the road?

If you are injured on the road, you should be evaluated by the athletic training staff on site to determine your ability to return to play, or for further referral. Your coach should contact the Lasell College athletic training staff to advise them of your injury, but it is your responsibility to schedule an appointment with a member of the Lasell College athletic training staff when you return to campus or the following day.

If my injury requires me to see a doctor or have surgery, how do the medical bills get paid?

All student-athletes must provide proof of medical insurance coverage. Your insurance company will provide primary coverage for doctor visits and other medical expenses. The athletic training staff can assist you in determining if you will need a referral from your primary care physician to ensure coverage, or in determining if our team physician is a participating provider with your insurance plan. In the event that your primary insurance does not cover the total cost of the bill, the Lasell College Department of Athletics carries a secondary athletic accident insurance policy that will cover medical expenses related to athletic injury.
