BB: Lasell comes up short vs. Emerson

MALDEN, Mass. – Junior Jack Fox (Los Angeles, Calif.) allowed just two runs in 7.1 innings and struck out 14 batters Tuesday evening as Emerson College defeated Lasell College, 4-3, in non-conference baseball action at a neutral site game at Malden Catholic High School.

Sophomore Harrison Silva (Lowell,  Mass.) provided the highlights for Lasell, collecting three of the team's five hits and driving in two runs. The Lasers fall to 7-5 overall while Emerson improves to 3-8.

Emerson jumped on top 1-0 in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by junior Joe Cuccio (Jefferson, N.J.). Lasell answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, as seniors David Marsell (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Chris Maringo (Farmingville, N.Y.) singled and walked, respectively, and were pushed into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Matt Bischof (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.). Silva brought them both home with a two-run single.

Sophomore Ryan McCahan (San Jose, Calif.) evened the score for Emerson in the fifth inning with an RBI fielder's choice before the Lions pulled ahead 4-2 with a pair of runs in the seventh. Sophomore Dylan Scarfo (Upper Montclair, N.J.) tripled and scored on an error before McCahan hit a sacrifice fly.

Lasell loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, and pulled to within a run with a fielder's choice by freshman Matt Motyka (Vernon, Conn.). But Emerson reliever Ethan Young (Amherst, Mass.) retired the next two batters to seal the win.

Junior Lorenzo Davis (West Haven, Conn.) started for Lasell and pitched 6.1 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits, striking out two, and suffering the loss (0-1).

Lasell is slated to host Wentworth on Thursday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Brandeis University, weather and field conditions permitting. Emerson is also scheduled to play Thursday, visiting Massachusetts Maritime for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
