WXC: Lasers place 11th at Suffolk Invitational Gold Race

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lasell University women's cross country team finished in 11th place out of 13 schools Saturday afternoon in the Gold Race of the Suffolk University Invitational, held at Franklin Park in Boston.

Freshman Aly Richard (New Hartford, Conn.) was the top runner for Lasell, placing 24th out of 107 runners in the race. She ran the 6K course in 27 minutes, 50 seconds, an average of 7:28 per mile. Seniors Shakira Henriquez (Methuen, Mass.) and Emma Vierling (Monmouth, Maine) were also strong finishers for the Lasers, finishing in 30:43 and 31:19 and placing 49th and 53rd, respectively.

Senior Emily Hong (Southborough, Mass.) crossed the line for Lasell in 35:30, placing 81st, and senior Sophie Fistori (Dartmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Meagan Phillips (North Reading, Mass.) were just four seconds apart, placing 84th and 85th in 35:47 and 35:51, respectively.

Simmons University and Bowdoin College were the top two schools in the team standings, both with scores of 69. Saint Joseph's of Maine (113) edged Regis (115) for third place, followed by Wellesley (135), Emmanuel (162), Southern Maine (180), Norwich (200), Mass. Maritime (208), Lesley (239), Lasell (254), Maine Maritime (332), and Dean (385).

The Lasers are off next weekend before competing in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships on Saturday, October 30, also at Franklin Park in Boston.
