Lasell Women's Cross Country team finishes 9th at GNAC Championships

STANDISH, Maine – The Lasell College women's cross country teams placed ninth Sunday afternoon at the annual Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships, hosted by Saint Joseph's College (Maine).

The Lasers were ninth out of 11 schools in the women's scoring. The Emmanuel College women captured their third GNAC title and first since 2015, out-running runner-up Suffolk and third-place Saint Joseph's (Maine).

Freshman Emma Murray (Wethersfield, Conn.) was the top finishers for Lasell, finishing in 36th place among 89 athletes in the women's 5K race, completing the course in 23 minutes, 22 seconds.

Sophomore Amanda Hawkes (Billerica, Mass.) was next behind Murray for the Laser women, finishing 44th in a time of 23:36. The next three Lasell finishers were senior Ashlee DeBarros (Dorchester, Mass.), 56th in 24:25; freshman Emma Vierling (Monmouth, Maine), 62nd in 24:39; and freshman Grace West (Kennebunk, Maine), 69th in 25:30. Also representing the Lasers were sophomore Maggie McGovern (Worcester, Mass.), 70th in 25:38; senior Stephanie Seedorf (Massapequa, N.Y.), 73rd in 26:15; and junior Beverly Ortiz (Waltham, Mass.), 83rd in 28:05.

After the event, DeBarros received th GNAC All-Sportsmanship award.

The Lasers will wrap up the season on Saturday, November 10, at the NCAA New England Regional Championships in Brunswick, Maine, hosted by Bowdoin College.
