Lasell Cross Country teams compete at UNE Invitational

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Senior Ryan Dalaba (North Granville, N.Y.) and sophomore Amanda Hawkes (Billerica, Mass.) were the top finishers for the Lasell College cross country teams Saturday morning as the Lasers competed in the University of New England Invitational at Rotary Park.

The host UNE Nor'Easters won both the men's and women's scoring. UNE had 20 points in the men's scoring, followed by Wentworth (67), Saint Joseph's (78), Gordon (85), Massachusetts Maritime (131) and Lasell (160). UNE scored 15 in the women's standings, followed by Gordon (59) and Saint Joseph's (59), Lasell (129) and Mass. Maritime (134).

Dalaba finished in 15th place among 63 runners in the 8K race, crossing the finish line in 29 minutes, seven seconds. Hawkes finished the women's 5K race in 32nd place among 80 runners, 22nd among scorers, in a time of 22 minutes, 38 seconds.

Lasell runners after Dalaba in the men's race included junior Matt Holden (Mehuen, Mass.), 28th in 32:30; junior Kyle Mullen (West Newbury, Mass.), 38th in 37:19; junior Kevin Wallin (Billerica, Mass.), 39th in 4-:13; and junior Mark Payton (Barrington, R.I.), 40th in 41:09.

Lasell runners after Hawkes in the women's race included senior Ashlee DeBarros (Dorchester, Mass.), 25th in 23:38; freshman Emma Vierling (Monmouth, Maine), 26th in 23:49; freshman Grace West (Kennebunk, Maine), 27th in 23:56; and senior Stephanie Seedorf (Massapequa, N.Y.), 29th in 25:19.

The Lasers will run again next Saturday, Sept. 15, at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Invitational.
