Cross Country Battles Harsh Heat at UNE Invite

BIDDEFORD, Maine (9/11/16) – The women's and men's cross country teams of Lasell College competed in the University of New England Invitational on Saturday in Biddeford, Maine. Despite the sweltering heat at Rotary Park, the Lasers battled in the men's 8K and women's 5K race. 

Finishing first for the Lasers for the second time this season was sophomore Ryan Dalaba (North Granville, N.Y.), who finished the 8K race in 30:25. Coming in at the 32-minute marker was Mark Greenwald (Monmouth, Maine) and Matthew Holden (Methuen, Mass.) who finished at 32:24 and 32:38, respectively, in their first 8K as a Laser.

Returners James Phelps (Westbrook, Maine) and Kyle Vonick (Wethersfield, Conn.) weren't far behind with 33:02 and 33:14 finishes. Freshman Kevin Wallin saw the collegiate 8K course for the first time, and finished at 34:59, followed by Troy Gonsalves (Providence, R.I.) at 35:35.

Overall the men combined for a team score of 298 and an averaged time of 32:20, beating out local conference opponents Suffolk University and Mount Ida College.

The first place finisher for the women was also a repeater from last week, as Stephanie Seedorf(Massapequa, N.Y.) clocked in at 23:32, one second shy of her personal best. Freshman Karli Manship(Pittsfield, Mass.) posted a strong first 5K at 23:41, while Megan Stella (Warren, Mass.) and Shannon Hart (Mashpee, Mass.) rounded out the race at 27:39 and 30:24.

The Lasers will rest up until Saturday, September 24 when they compete in the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College beginning at 11:00 a.m.
