Women's Cross Country Competes at NCAA Regionals

BRUNSWICK, Maine. - The Lasell College Women's Cross Country Team wrapped up the 2011 season by competing at the highly competitive NCAA New England Regional Meet on Saturday morning. The 6-kilometer event was hosted by Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine and featured 51 women's teams. No. 3-ranked Middlebury College defeated No. 1 Williams College for the women's team crown, winning by just five points.

The Lasell women gained some great experience competing against several of the nation's top teams. Several Lasers also set personal best times and the women placed 37th as a team out of the field of 51 teams. Senior Meghan Missett (Lowell, M.A.) covered the 6K course in 24:46 finishing in 164th overall and just under a minute behind was Amy Santella at 25:21.   Sophomore Jessica Smith (Townsend, M.A.) earned a time of 25:58 while Amanda Driscoll (Roslindale, M.A.) completed the women's course in 27:29 just seconds in front of Solange Carpenter (Gorham, M.E.) with a 27:32 time.  Finishing in 316th place was junior Christina Annicelli (North Easton, M.A.) with a time of 29:16 and Kelly Pigott rounded out the Lasers with a 31:48 time. 

The Lasers' 2011 Cross Country season is now in the books. Many of the women will now gear up for the winter Indoor Track & Field season. The Lasers will open the 2011-12 Indoor Track & Field season on December 3rd at the Smith College Winter Classic.
