Lasell Women’s Volleyball sweeps Mass. Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – The Lasell College women's volleyball team won its third straight match and seventh in the last nine outings Wednesday evening with a 3-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the Clean Harbors Athletic Center in non-conference play.

The Buccaneers (0-12) kept each set close, including pushing the third set past 25 points, but were unable to win a set as Lasell (7-12) took the match in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, and 26-24.

Senior Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) and freshman Kiana Perez (Juncos, Puerto Rico) led the way for the winners with 10 kills each of the 40 total Laser kills. Freshman Jess Langan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) assisted in 28 points for the visitors, a match high, while adding four service aces, and sophomore libero Allie Jo Amos (Prescott, Ariz.) recorded a team-high 12 digs.

Maritime's attack was led by junior Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass) with eight kills. Freshman, Tegan Murray (Newbury, Mass) was right behind her with five kills. Junior Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass) had a team-high 17 assists in the match. Adding a team high four service aces for the Bucs was Madison Coughlin (Monroe, Conn). Libero Christina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass) had a match high 20 digs for the Buccaneers.

The Lasers took an early lead in the first set and once they took a 10-5 lead, their five-point lead only grew as they won the set 25-17.

Set two went a bit differently, with the Bucs jumping out to a 6-1 lead. They held that lead until the teams tied at nine apiece. At that point, the Lasers kept the Bucs at bay, allowing just six more points, winning the set 25-15.

In set three, Lasell jumped out to another early lead but the Buccaneers weren't going to go down that easy, fighting off a six-point deficit to tie the set at 12. The teams traded points and serves with the Buccaneers taking a four-points 24-20 lead, one point from pushing the match to a fourth set. Lasell wasn't going to allow the hosts to take a set, scoring six unanswered points to take the match, 3-0.

Lasell returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday with a tri-match at Anna Maria College in Paxton, Mass., with Saint Joseph's College (Maine). The Bucs are on the road this Saturday for a tri-match with Dean College and Eastern Nazarene College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
