Lasell Women’s Volleyball defeated by Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Senior Shannon Roseen (Malden, Mass.) led a balanced attack with nine kills and three blocks to help Babson College defeat visiting Lasell College, 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-17), in non-conference women's volleyball action on Friday night inside Staake Gymnasium.

Babson, which snapped a three-match winning streak improves to 2-3 overall, while Lasell slips to 0-6 on the year.

Senior Catherine Hunter (Duxbury, Mass.) had seven kills, while sophomores Gaby Miller (Miami, Fla.), Allie Puccio (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Avery Tronson (Woodland Hills, Calif.) all contributed five kills apiece for the Beavers, who hit .258 as a team. Fellow sophomore Sabrina Lechner (Novato, Calif.) led all players with six blocks, senior Abby Beecher (Pittsford, N.Y.) contributed 10 digs, and juniors Emily Woodward (Deerfield, Mass.) and Elizabeth Cameron (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) dished out 18 and 13 assists, respectively.

Senior Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) had seven kills, first-year Kiana Perez (Juncos, Puerto Rico) added six kills, and classmate Jess Langan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) finished with 15 assists for the Lasers. Sophomore Allie Jo Amos (Prescott, Ariz.) led all players with 11 digs in a losing effort.

The Green and White had 10 first-set kills and jumped out to a quick 12-1 lead on its way to taking a 1-0 lead. The Beavers opened a 10-2 advantage early in game two, but Lasell responded with a 12-3 run that included three kills by Addington to take its first lead of the match.

Babson regained an 18-16 edge on a service ace by senior Lauren Hennigan (West Chester, Pa.), but the Lasers pulled even again at 22-22 on another put away by Addington. Woodward and Lechner sandwiched kills around an attack error by Lasell to close out a 25-22 victory.

The Green and White never trailed in the third set, racking up 18 kills and hitting .394 to close out the match. The Lasers got as close as 17-14 before three kills by Miller and two more by Tronson helped the hosts pull away.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday with a pair of matches at MIT. Babson takes on Roger Williams at 10 a.m. and Morrisville State at 2 p.m., while Lasell faces MIT at 12 p.m. and Springfield at 4 p.m.
