Gordon Drops Lasell in Women's Volleyball Action

Wenham, Mass. - The Lasell College women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match, 3-1 to Gordon College on Tuesday evening. The Lasers drop to 0-5 on the season while the Fighting Scots climbed to 4-1 overall on the year. 

Gordon College captured the opening set, 25-16, opening up an 11-4 lead and allowing the visitors no closer than the seven point margin the rest of the way to take a 1-0 lead in the match. In the second set the Lasers jumped out to a 6-0 advantage before Gordon stormed back with nine unanswered points to take a 9-6 lead. Gordon pushed their lead to 15-8 midway through the set before a Lasell rally keyed by a trio of kills by Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) and Kiana Perez (Juncos, P.R.) helped the visitors knot the score at 22-22. Gordon tallied the next two points to take a 24-22 lead only to see Lasell rattle off four straight points including another Perez kill and a service ace from Dana Coughlin (Cromwell, Conn.) to capture the second set 26-24.

The third set was knotted at 14-14 before Gordon rattled off 11 of the next 15 points to take a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-18 victory in the set. The Fighting Scots kumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth set enroute to a comfortable 25-8 win to secure the 3-1 result.

Kiana Perez paced Lasell with with 10 kills and nine digs with a .296 hitting percentage and Olivia Addington chipped in eight kills and 11 digs for the Lasers. Allie Jo Amos (Prescott, Ariz.) added a team-high 15 digs for Lasell, and Jess Langan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) notched 18 assists and four digs in the match.

Gordon College was led by Amanda Snyder recorded 12 kills, seven digs, and three aces. Jamie Tafoya also had 12 kills and recorded two aces.  Ashlyn Gergins dished out 36 assists, eight digs, four kills, and three aces. Jenny Curtiss led the team with 19 digs while Jacque Fitzgerald led the team with four block assists.

The Lasers will return to the court on Friday September 7th when they will play Babson College in the MIT Invitational at 6:00 p.m.
