Tiezzi Reaches 1,000 Digs in Five Set Drawback to Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (10/24/17) – Senior setter Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) became just the third Lasell women's volleyball player to reach the 1,000 digs, 2,000 assists combination in a five-set thriller Tuesday evening at the Tinsley Center. Tiezzi hit the 2,000 assists plateau during the first game of the season, played in San Juan, P.R., and added 14 digs this evening to reach the career milestone.

The Lasers came firing out of the gates in the non-league affair, earning 25-22 and 25-20 set victories in the opening frames. However, the home team staged a late-game comeback and took sets three and four, 25-14 and 25-20, before narrowly topping Lasell in the deciding set 15-11.

Lasell had strong defensive performances from all starters, led by Tiezzi and Cailtyn Garica (Moreno Valley, Calif.), who each had 14 on the night. Lauren Piper (Scarborough, Maine) added 13 digs, while Michele Canestro (Castleton, N.Y.) and Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) each swung into a commanding double-double. Canestro hit into 16 kills and 10 digs, while Addington smashed 21 kills on a .291 percentage with 11 digs. Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.) rounded off double digit kills with 11.

While Tiezzi dished out 49 assists, Katie Scheider (Covina, Calif.) stepped in and added 15 helpers in the effort.

The Bears also had a balanced defense, with Cassidy Tyros leading the charge on 32 digs. Three other Bears reached double figures defensively, as Kayla Baril rode a 20 kills, 10 dig stat line, hitting .294 in the victory. Elexi Miskiv assisted 45 of Bridgewater's 64 team kills.

The Lasers will play their final non-league game on Thursday at Emerson before wrapping up the regular season with a conference tri-match on Saturday.
