Lasers Climb GNAC Standings with Tri Match Sweep

BOSTON, Mass. (10/21/17) - The Lasell women's volleyball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match on Saturday afternoon with Regis and Emmanuel on the Andy Yosinoff Court. The Lasers earned a 3-1 victory against the Pride before downing the host Saints in five sets, and improve to 12-17 overall and soar above .500 against league opponents at 6-4.

In the middle match, the Lasers took the first two sets before Regis avoided the sweep with a 25-20 third set score. Lasell ultimately finished the match with a 25-19 win in the final frame. Emmanuel battled in the final match of the afternoon, falling behind to the Lasers 2-1 before the hosts forced a fifth set with a 25-19 win in the fourth frame. The Saints led 8-4 midway through the final set but saw the Lasers rally for the 15-11 win to take the match.

Outside hitter Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) led Lasell with a combined 34 kills over her two matches, highlighted be a blistering 20 kills and 20 digs against Regis. Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.) swung into 11 kills against the Pride, while Mickayla Shelburn (Waterford, Conn.) and Michele Canestro (Castleton, N.Y.) registered 14 and 13 kills, respectively in the five-setter against Emmanuel.

Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley, Calif.), who recently hit the 2,000 digs career milestone, steered the defense with 41 digs overall, while Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) and Katie Schneider (Covina, Calif.) split setter duties.

Lasell travels to Bridgewater State University and Emerson on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively, before wrapping up the regular season with a home tri-match on October 28 with Norwich and Anna Maria.
