Women's Volleyball Honors Seven Seniors in Tri-Match Split

WESTON, Mass. (10/14/17) – The Lasell women's volleyball team honored its seven graduating seniors, Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.), Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley, Calif.), Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.), Michele Canestro (Castleton, N.Y.), Lauren Piper (Scarborough, Maine), Magdalen Trainor (Worcester, Mass.) and Madison Cota (Bellows Falls, Vt.) in a 1-1 split against Saint Joseph Connecticut and Smith College Saturday afternoon in Weston, Mass.

The Lasers swept the Blue Jays of Saint Joseph in the first match by set scores of 25-18, 25-9, 25-17, and improve to 3-4 against league opponents. In the latter match, Lasell to Smith in four, 24-26, 25-20, 16-25, and 21-25. With the results, Lasell shifts to 9-17 this season.

Lasell vs. Saint Joseph

Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) was just short of a double-double in the effort with 14 kills and 8 digs. She additionally swung into two service aces for a match-high 16 points. Eagan was next on the stat sheet with six kills, while Garcia backstopped the defense with 15 digs. Setter Tiezzi dished out 18 assists.

Jasmine Buckley was three away from double digits in kills, and smashed seven in the effort while recording 10 digs, a team-best. Brenna Miller assisted on 13 of Saint Josephs' 18 kills.

Lasell vs. Smith

The Lasers bounced back from an 0-1 deficit to defeat the Pioneers 25-20 in the second, but Smith held on for the 4-1 decision. Canestro shined in the final match of the afternoon, running a stat line of 12 kills, eight digs, and two aces. Addington swung into nine kills against the Pioneers, while Garcia and Tiezzi recorded 20 digs and 32 assists, respectively.

Two Pioneers hit in double digits, paced by Amy Hagen who had 13 to go along with nine digs. Caleigh Johnson followed Hagen with 11 kills and four blocks – three solo – while Sakura Tamaki had a match-best 28 digs.

Lasell returns home for their next contest on Wednesday, October 18. The Lasers host crosstown rival Mount Ida College for a 7:00 p.m. match.
